We are passionate about outdoor adventure and believe that time immersed in nature is good for the body, mind and spirit! For Irish Gap Year students nature will become a place for adventure, reflection and realization.

The landscape, weather and environment is an integral part of Ireland and it is an integral part of all of the programs at Irish Gap Year. We use outdoor activities and adventures to get students out into the Irish landscape, experiencing all it has to offer and allowing them to become immersed in their environment.
The Northwest of Ireland is an outdoor adventure playground! We definitely think so. But you do not need to be a super-hero brave person to do any of our outdoor activities. All you need is a little sense of adventure and willingness to particpate.
All our activities are conducted by highly trained and friendly program leaders who want everyone to have fun no matter what level they are at.
We have summarised some of the main adventure activities you can do with Irish Gap Year.
There is an abundance of walks, trails and mountain hikes in Ireland - you could literally go on a different walk 365 days a year!
However, we are blessed with some of the most beautiful trails in the west and north-western region of Ireland - rugged coastal trails, forested walks dotted with waterfalls and 360 degree panoramas from the peak of mountains.
All of our hikes and trail walks are guided and conducted by experienced hikers who are familiar with the trails. Our walks are tailored to the abilities of the group as a whole and are day long in length at the most.
Hiking or trail walks can be added to any of our Tailor-made Tours. Just ask us!
Can anyone go on our hikes?
Yes! All you need is a basic level of fitness, a good sturdy pair of walking shoes/boots, a raincoat and a sense of adventure.
Learn to surf in Bundoran, the Surf Capital of Ireland. Catch a wave in the Atlantic Ocean, make new friends and experiences and get into the great outdoors!
We work with experienced and fully qualified surf schools based in Bundoran, Co Donegal. Their team of friendly and helpful surf instructors will bring you from complete beginner to catching some white foamy waves and beyond during any of our travel programs.

Can anyone learn to surf?
Yes! Most people can learn to surf. If you want to do it, we can show you how. All you need is to have a sense of adventure and a basic level of fitness and swimming ability. You do not need to be an expert in the water.
The surf lessons are all done by trained instructors, with beach lifeguard qualifications and lessons take place in a safe environment.
Get a different perspective of Ireland's great coastline. Sea-kayaking is an amazing way discover your natural environment. We work with a local kayaking company who bring participants along the sea caves and cliffs of Donegal Bay along with the inland water ways and lakes of county Leitrim.
The instructors are all fully qualified and experienced kayakers; you wear a life jacket at all times and we never stray too far from the coast. The paddles are tailored to your abilities and safety is of the upmost importance.

Can anyone go sea kayaking?
Yes. There is no need to be an expert in the water - in fact you will not be in the water at all. Sea Kayaking is an excellent way to take in the wild-life and scenery in a relaxed way. All you need is a basic level of fitness and a sense of adventure.
Our sea kayak paddles are always led by a qualified instructor.
Bundoran in county Donegal and the surrounding area is an excellent place to do Stand-Up Paddle-boarding. There is a wealth of inland waterways to be explored along with sheltered coves and bays along the Wild Atlantic Way.
On our programs, you will learn to do Stand-up Paddle-Boarding known as SUP with a fully qualified surf school from the local area. You can paddle out into the great Atlantic Ocean and feel the freedom of "walking on water" or explore hidden rivers and lakes.
